With the song, Azalea wanted to showcase a fun side to herself and her artistry, and to offset the seriousness of her previous single, "Work". "Bounce" was written as "something light and fun for the summer" and a "festival anthem" about celebration. Azalea also wanted "to see how the pop-rap thing would go". She recorded the track in early 2013, when she was on tour with Nas in London. Olatunji recorded background vocals for the track with Azalea at Grove Studios in London. The song was mixed by Anthony Kilhoffer at The Mix Spot in Los Angeles, with assistance from Kyle Ross.

Azalea found "Bounce" to be different from her previous releases and the most commercial song on The New Classic. She initially felt that it was a risky choice for a single, and consulted Nas regarding the decision; "With 'Bounce,' I was like, 'It's a pop record. I don't know.' [Nas] was like, 'Just fucking do it. It's something different. It's one song, what's the big deal?' I couldn't believe Nas was telling me to do a hip-pop record." Azalea also did not intend to include the song on The New Classic, believing that it strayed too far from the album's musical and lyrical themes, but her record label convinced her otherwise and it was included as one of the album's three bonus tracks. The song was later included in the main track listing of the album's reissue, Reclassified.
On 15 April 2013, VEVO announced Azalea as its second LIFT artist of 2013 and that she would film live festival performances, fashion and style pieces and behind-the-scenes interviews as part of the eight-week-long campaign. It was also revealed that the music video for her second single "Bounce" would premiere on VEVO at the end of the month.

The song was generally well received by music critics, and was compared to American recording artist Ke$ha and Dutch band 2 Unlimited.

"Bounce" was more successful than Azalea's previous single ("Work") in the United Kingdom, reaching number 13 on the UK Singles Chart. It made the top ten in Scotland and on the UK R&B Chart, and charted in Australia, Belgium and Ireland. The song's popularity was enhanced by a DJ Green Lantern remix for the soundtrack of the American film, Vampire Academy in (2014).
Critical reception
"Bounce" has received positive reviews from critics so far, who deemed it Azalea's most commercial song to date, "[Azalea] pairs the fiery raps for which she gained popularity with a club-friendly house beat that’s the most commercial thing we’ve heard from her to date — more so even than the trappy "Work". Here, she evokes a nastier Ke$ha, spitting, "Shake it, break it, make it bounce", over a pounding beat.

Music video
The lyrics are party-happy, uncomplicated fun: "Let ya hair down and shake that shit / Sweat it out, go nuts in this bitch / Dip it, spin it, and watchin’ my hips / I see you watchin’ my hips / Crazy, move your body like Swayze."

The music video for "Bounce", directed by Japanese-American directing team BRTHR (Alex Lee and Kyle Wightman), was filmed in Mumbai. The video featured Azalea performing traditional Indian dances at a Holi celebration, riding an elephant through the streets of Mumbai and wearing a traditional sari. It was nominated for an mtvU Woodie Award.

The track was praised as "confidently club-ready" and compared to the likes of other successful mainstream female rappers, "think Missy Elliott-meets-Lil' Kim-meets-Ke$ha-meets-Nicki Minaj".

Music video
The music video for the song was shot in April 2013 in Mumbai, India and premiered May 6, 2013, on VEVO. Directed by BRTHR Films, the visuals are Bollywood-themed.

While being interviewed about the video shoot, Azalea called the experience one of the highlights of her career. "Shooting "Bounce" in India was surreal, it’s just so crazy to dream something so big and actually see it happen". She continued, "We just took this elephant and thugged it down the street, and it was insane."

"Bounce" is a song recorded by Australian rapper Iggy Azalea for her debut album, The New Classic appearing on the deluxe edition.
