"Bounce" is a song recorded by Australian hip hop recording artist Iggy Azalea, from her upcoming debut studio album "The New Classic". The song was released in Australia on 24 May 2013 and will be released in the United Kingdom on 8 July 2013 through Mercury Records. "Bounce" serves as the album's second single in Europe and Australia.
Background
On 15 April 2013, VEVO announced Azalea as its second LIFT artist of 2013 and that she would film live festival performances, fashion and style pieces and behind-the-scenes interviews as part of the eight-week-long campaign. It was also revealed that the music video for her second single "Bounce" would premiere on VEVO at the end of the month.
On 26 April 2013, Annie Mac premiered Azalea's second British single, "Bounce," on her BBC Radio 1 evening show. The track was then quickly uploaded on Azalea's official Soundcloud page and management's YouTube account.
Critical reception
"Bounce" has received positive reviews from critics so far, who deemed it Azalea's most commercial song to date, "[Azalea] pairs the fiery raps for which she gained popularity with a club-friendly house beat that’s the most commercial thing we’ve heard from her to date — more so even than the trappy "Work". Here, she evokes a nastier Ke$ha, spitting, "Shake it, break it, make it bounce", over a pounding beat.
The lyrics are party-happy, uncomplicated fun: "Let ya hair down and shake that shit / Sweat it out, go nuts in this bitch / Dip it, spin it, and watchin’ my hips / I see you watchin’ my hips / Crazy, move your body like Swayze."
The track was praised as "confidently club-ready" and compared to the likes of other successful mainstream female rappers, "think Missy Elliott-meets-Lil' Kim-meets-Ke$ha-meets-Nicki Minaj".
Music video
The music video for the song was shot in April 2013 in Mumbai, India and premiered May 6, 2013, on VEVO. Directed by BRTHR Films, the visuals are Bollywood-themed.
While being interviewed about the video shoot, Azalea called the experience one of the highlights of her career. "Shooting "Bounce" in India was surreal, it’s just so crazy to dream something so big and actually see it happen". She continued, "We just took this elephant and thugged it down the street, and it was insane."
